Currently Gigabyte motherboards with Intel chipsets of i975/X38/X48 series supports both ECC and non-ECC memory’s. Details on other models please refer to user’s manual or Gigabyte official website for ECC memory support status.
Based on Intel ICH5R controller specification, the controller supports max. transfer mode of IDE channel is UDMA5. Meanwhile, the SATA ports that is provided by ICH5R are mapped from IDE channel. Thus, when you connect SATA HDD to the ports ICH5 provides, the max. HDD transfer rate will be set at UDMA5.
Yes, please update the latest BIOS. But please note if your OS like WinXP is already installed on SATAHDDs under ICH5R controller, please make sure to update ICH5RSATA RAID driver from our IUCD 2.4 or Gigabyte website first, then update the latest BIOS.
